Virtual Clinicals???

Nurses General Nursing

Maybe someone out there can help me? I'm a second yr. LPN std. and just recently both of our clinical instructors quit on us, one to finish her master's and the other to accept a DON position, (Can't blame them) but at the same time, this left us high and dry with no one for our 2nd round of med/surg clinicals. There is talk that we are going to have virtual clinicals, anyone ever done this or heard of it. I'd love and appreciate any advice or head's up that you could give me. Thanks!! from Indiana. :)

I have never heard of this but i will watching this thread to see what is available out there...it would be good for lpn's that have been out of the workforce for a time but i don't know of the value for a new nurse

We used a program called "Virtual Clinical Excursions" a couple of semesters ago. It wasn't bad, but certainly no substitute for an actual clinical experience. It was basically just a bunch of scenarios with patients that you had to run through and then complete work sheets. It was nothing like really being at the hospital.

Hope your school can find some new instuctors!

Thanks for answering me, I completely agree that it will be nothing like having an actual clinical experience- Totally bummed! At least we got one sem. of med/surg in before this happened. Hopefully we will get instructors soon but for now, we still have none (2nd week of class). You gave me some idea for what to expect and I appreciate it! Thanks!

Hmmm...I wonder if this virtual thing meets the standards and regulations of nursing schools of the licensing board in your state?
