Vaccination Rate for Flu vaccine

  1. Hello everyone. I am currently in charge of entering the Flu vaccine compliance rate for employees at our hospital. We were at 74% vaccinated for 2018. I was just wondering about other hospitals and nurses that have compliance rates of greater than 90%, how do they document giving the vaccines to employees? The way we document the vaccine is painfully slow and redundant [paper & website], despite having electronic records/scanning equipment for medications. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't give a rat's patootie, as there is no way Big Pharma and the hospital admin in their pockets is going to force me into increasing my risks of late onset autism, not to mention the fact that I always get the flu after getting the shot, though it does get better with a Z-pack.

Just kidding, but hopefully, for your sake, this doesn't head that way. Most mentions of the flu vaccine around here do go down that rabbit hole.

This seems super simple. Why not just have a google doc or something simple with an alphabetical checklist?

I just snorted pepsi (diet) through my nose. That was so funny! Thank you for the laugh.

Our compliance rate is high because our choices are simple. Get the vaccine or get fired. Only those who have documented anaphylactic reactions are exempt.

Our facility is >90% but the documentation is still terrible. We're encouraged to take pics of the paper document with our phone lest it gets lost and they try to vaccinate us twice. Honestly, the worst offenders for not getting vaccinated are our physician groups. Our employee health nurse has to chase them like none other.

But, why is record keeping even a little bit difficult?
Make a list of everybody. Only one list.
When somebody is vaccinated, check them off.

We use badge swipers that automatically upload to a spreadsheet. Approximately 11,000 staff and physicians to track.

We are a relatively small facility (~900 employees) and we had a 97% compliance rate last year. I have no clue how they document it though.

OH MY GOODNESS! My blood pressure started rising so high when I read the first paragraph of your post, and I got into full battle-mode! You gave me a good laugh once I realized you were kidding...

I don't know what tracking system we use, but everyone who gets the flu shot has their badge scanned before employee health administers it. Our compliance rate is pretty high since those who are not vaccinated are required to wear a mask while at work for the entire flu season (which seems to be getting longer). The managers receive reports of who is receiving flu vaccine and these rates are posted on the units. The only people who are exempt are those who provide documentation of an allergy to the flu vaccine. My previous employer did not make vaccination mandatory, but enticed people into getting it by entering all those who received the vaccine into a raffle for 100 $2 scratch ticket, their compliance rate was pretty much 100% (I guess people are more likely to be compliant when there is financial incentive).
