TV's ER new NM, Eve

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I've missed the past couple of episodes this season (you know, clinical and studying and all). Anyway, I'm tickled so far to meet the new nurse manager on the show, Eve. Maybe the producers are finally hearing what real nurses thought of the representation on the show. She seems promising.

On the other hand, I can't believe this show has been on for 9 or so years and they STILL *all* wear every single stethoscope backwards! :smackingf

Okay...I just have to chime in here. Has anyone else noticed that Eve is really good at spouting off lots of knowledge, but doesn't do a whole lot of 'hands-on' care, even when an extra pair of hands might be needed? I can't help but think that we are going to see a show soon where it comes out that she is good with knowledge, but can't do much else or doesn't actually know HOW to do anything. I really hope that I am wrong, because it is good to have another strong nurse on the show! What do you all think?

OK, I'm missing something. I have been a nurse for 13 years, I didn't know that there was a "backwards" way to wear a stethoscope. I just throw mine around my neck. What are you guys talking about?????

I agree!!! :rotfl:

Probably find out she doesn't even have her license LOL. I have been sleeping the last two episodes but I did wake up in time to hear her give Sam a bad time. I would be going to the nurse union rep and let her know what is going on. I am sure that a grievance is in line for Sam...

By 'backwards' I think they just mean to have the stethoscope's ear prongs pointing forwards, into your ears. On the show, the actors frequently put them in their ears the other way.

I agree that the show has really lost it's lustre for a couple seasons, but I'm enjoying some new characters. Although Eve really needs to show some hands-on skill, cause right now she's just all talk! :nono:

So far John Leguizamo seems like such a jerk! I hope his character gets better too...

Love ER, What fun to let people think they know what is going on!!! Can't wait to see what is going on next week

You ain't kiddin!!!! :redbeathe

My favorite Luca episode is when they all have to go to sensitivity training, and they are stuck waiting for the teacher. Luca and Carter are "dueling" for Abby, and Luca does Hamlet in Croatian; *melt*:redpinkhe

Isn't that the one where they all tell when they lost their virginity and Dr. Carter says he lost his at 11 with the maid. I thought that was heartbreakingly sad AND child sexual abuse. But the show went on its merry way w/o addressing that at all.

It reminded me of when Tom Cruise was on Jay Leno and talked about when he was a little kid, his sister's friend would set him up on the bar in the kitchen and practice kissing with him, including french kissing. He was a little kid!!

For what it is worth, as she said to Dr. K, he can call her doctor, as she has her PhD. And as a former nurse manager, I kind of share her attitude, A conflict between a nurse and a physician, that interfers with patient care, and can't be resolved, the parties need to be on different shifts. As one of my former supervisor's once said, 'don't drag your dirty lundary into work. I may change my mind but right now, she is a very good role model.

Hello all,

Once again I must agree to disagree! I have worked in Cook County Hospital where this is all occuring. Now thst they have a new hospital an ED it differs somewhat from the truth. The hospital was condemmed in 1943(?) by the college of surgeons as inadequate, yet they remained the #1 traume center for GSW in the country! They deserve a standing ovation!!! So if you are shot in Chicago....Go to county!!! I get they need for viewing purpose's they need a story line. I as a manager would make changes only if the team suffered. She comes in "balls to the wall" attitude that may not get you anywhere in most circumstances. But You also need to make it known you bare for your nurses and staff and you have the "-----" to back it up goes a long way!! A lot of what you see has actually occured....I could write a novel myself!!! GO COOK COUNTY!!!!!

I wonder if they wear it that way so the brand name on the diaphragm shows? Product placement?

What drives me crazy, and they did it to this nurse, is when they put them in low cut shirts with their cleavage hanging out.
