tube feeding and gag reflex

does your facility have a standing order regarding feeding tube and gag reflex? such as do you have to check gag reflex before feeding tube insertion? Or are you told to check gag reflex at certain time after the initiation of tube feeding? I read an article written by a registered dietitian that said gag reflex and even coughing reflex are almost useless indication for aspiration risk.

I'm in the orientation phase at my hospital and we just learned about this. We were told that OG tubes are for patients without a gag reflex and to use an NG tube otherwise.
