Tricks of the Trade

  1. I know that we all have little tricks here and there that help us out and I figured this would be a good way to share them. I will start with a good one I learned from a paramedic friend of mine. For the old man who cannot hear, give him your stethascope(sp) and talk into the diaphragm while he has the ear pieces in his ears, only do not shout.
    All bleeding eventually stops, and all rythms eventually become recognizable.

    for Gtubes that are used for noncontinual tube feeds, if they leak at the plug, use child sized socks to cover...

    Here's one for OB - to put ice on an episiotomy - take a disposable diaper, cut a slit near front edge and dump ice behind the batting inside. Fits well where they need it and absorbent too.
