Nurses General Nursing

Hey nurses! I have been a nurse for 6 years with experience in GI Lab, Med/Surg, Telemetry and CVICU. I have come to realize that I don't want to work these hours anymore. I know it's nice to have 4 days off per week, but I am off when family & friends and working and working when they are off! Also, I miss out on so many holidays. I would rather have an 8-5 job. I have applied for case management positions and waiting to hear back. What other options do I have outside of bedside? Also, what are the best areas within case management?

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I work from home as an RN case manager for a major insurance company. I feel that the job itself is not terribly invigorating, but the flexibility, autonomy, and lack of stress cannot be beat.

That's why I'm so eager to try it. I want less stress.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

I have been working as a patient educator in a five surgeon bariatric surgery practice. 9-5 M-F generally with tons of flexibility. Weekends and holidays off.

I am leaving this to go into Professional Development, which is mainly M-F with occasional weekend and/or night shift appearances to share education material.

My stress level and quality of life is far better off 12 hour shifts. It just was time.

That sounds nice! I have background in bariatrics, how did you get into that?

I work 7-330 mon-fri as a nurse case manager for foster kids. I like the job, however it has been a huge adjustment. I miss having more days off during the week however I love having every weekend and holiday off. So there are pros and cons.
