I promise to welcome you and treat you better than I was treated. I will do my best to be your ally when the "eating of the young" starts. I will be patient when you make mistakes and remember that I made all of them too. I will help you in ways I wished people helped me. I will support you when you get overwhelmed and frustrated. And when you reach your one year mark, please do the same for those that follow. When you want to cry, know that I have been there and I made it and so will you. Godspeed, its going to be one heck of a year for you. Probably the hardest you'll endure! But in the end it will all be worth it and you will be better for it. So head up and do not apologize for what you have yet to learn. Don't fake it til you make it. Ask questions and try to learn something new every day. Get your rest, eat as healthy as you can, and just do your best!

THANK YOU!! I'm going to be a new grad in about 2 months and I hope all the nurses I work with are just like you! Thank you for the encouragement! :)

Agreed. Oh and if you do need to cry, I'll always have a shoulder you can use! I will do my best to teach you to stand on your own while showing you that you never are alone. Almost all of my preceptees have my cell number and know if they ever need to bounce ideas off of me that I'll always be there for them.

I have to say I love precepting and that my preceptees are some of the most wonderful people and nurses I know.

That's so thoughtful! I graduate next month, YAY! And I also promise to be nice to new nurses in the future :)

I graduate in December, and while I have oficially started the graduation countdown, it has hit me that omg...Im really going to be a nurse and not have my student title as "homebase" to run back to, then it all became very scary! The good thing is (well I say this now..bad for my poor preceptor) I ask a TON of questions, I HAVE to know and do not except things at face value...gracious I know I sound very type A and my poor preceptor will probably strangle me.

But I always promise when I survive my 1st year....I will always be nice to new nurses and the students...its the least I can do to better the profession!

You are awesome!!!! :yeah:

RK - I have to tell you my last preceptee was the same way, questions about everything. If she wasn't sure she understood, there would be another question and another until she was sure she was understanding what I was saying. It drove everyone else kind of crazy but I loved it because I knew she wanted to do her best and would never do anything she didnt feel comfortable with.

But usually there is one of us out there to champion you on, just look for us and we will support you the best we can, we were the ones eaten and refused to be spit out, we are the strong, we are the ones who learned the hard way and refused to be hardened in spirit only in skin. We survived and so shall you.

lol:) every floor has their own drama!

My first introduction to the nursing proffesion was ugly. I just hope everyone can get the support they need to be successful, because once I found it, it made all the difference.
