Thiazide diuretics and anesthesia

I posted this in the student assistance forum but am not getting any responses. Could you all help?

Why do thiazide diuretics interact with anesthesia so as to increase the risk for excessive respiratory depression? I think it has to do with the electrolyte imbalance caused by the diuretic, but I cannot find an adequate explanation in either my pharmacology text or my med-surg text. If there is a source to look up this info, I would be grateful for some direction. I also tried Merck Manual Online.

Thanks for your help!!
