Does anyone know an RN who terminated from a hospital because she/he failed the annual competency camp? Is it required to report to Board of RN?

Did you fail it? Or is this a curiosity question?

As far as I'm aware, at the two hospitals I'm familiar with, the competency days are considered education. You can ask questions and learn before you check off. Partially because not all units use the same equipment frequently and partially because the goal is to make sure that everyone understands changes or updates in equipment or processes.

I suppose they could fire you if you never passed the competency, but I've never heard of it. It's not supposed to be punitive but it's designed to be educational.

I haven't heard of anyone failing the competencies as you can take the on line test several times. What specific competency is it?

I think if there is detailed information on what happens if you do not pass, a place of employment can fire you at any time.

What exactly happened or are you concerned about?

The only time this would be used to fire someone is if there is strong observation of incompetence at the bedside and this were the final straw/proof needed to get rid of that person.

As an educator, otherwise competencies are intended to refresh training and update knowledge of current standards of care. It isn't punitive at all.
