Hi everyone,

I'm just curious and getting kind of depressed because I cannot find a job. I mean it's not through a lack of trying and I've some interviews, but "Always a brides maid never a bride".

I've been off for six weeks after I took a PRN job at local area nursing home to cover some nurses off on FMLA and the holidays and then kicked to curb. Before that I was off for five months.

I've been an RN for 4 years and I cannot believe this. Can anyone relate or is it just me:confused:

Thanks for the ear anyway. Roller.

Definitely what is happening now with nursing jobs is beyond any predictions and belief...Unfortunately nursing profession is not recession proof and even the most experienced nurses out there have a very hard time landing a job, very depressing times but what is happening is unfortunately beyond our control...market for new grads isnt any better...I had a extremely hard time finding my first job,it took me nearly 6 months to get hired in out of state fairly decent hospital for which I had to move kind far away from home, unfortunately to some issues my first nursing position did not work out as I expected and as a result I lost time, money and now my resume will look terrible (it will look like I havent been working for a whole year (btw my state license expires on May 2010,wonder if I will ever get to used it before it expires,I seriously doubt it..) So basically I'm starting from a scratch this time however I'm more confident than before, learned that I cant trust anyone in the field and and realized that I have to cover my own behind to surive, tough lesson, definitely not easy to chew but well worth it to experience, good luck to you,I hope that you will soon find a job you will enjoy.

Have you tried Akron General, Lodi or Medina? It's been awhile since I checked out jobs up there.

If you've been a nurse for four years, what were you doing up until 6 months ago?

Sorry for both of you. This is an unprecedented time for nursing employment. I can suggest a couple of things that will help you become more competitive. first, polish interview skills. There are many sites online that can help you do this. Same for your resume or CV. A poorly written one can be rejected out of hand even if you are Florence Nightingale :D

Be flexible.Don't expect to walk in and get the day 9 to 5 job. You may need to do nights or week-ends until the market eases. The good news....... it WILL ease. Many of us boomers are retiring. Good luck!

Well I've got about 2.5 year nursing experience. My husband is military and we are in upstate NY. I've been looking for work now since the new year and finally got my first interview today, and I know I wasn't the only nurse scheduled for an interview today....so now I wait for the call back.

I would honestly say it was easier getting my first nursing job (hired for a hospital job on the spot after interview), than it is in these times with a little experience under my belt!

Good luck!

I was working full-time on a Med/Surg floor as an RN.

Thanks, I haven't checked in awhile.

What happened that you left that position? Did you quit before lining up a different job?

I left my job before lining up another position.

I felt confident enough that I didn't think I would come across this kind of drop off; however, that opinion has changed quite a bit.

I'm feeling concerned about my skills and critical thinking skills because I been off for so long.

If you don't use you lose it. I'm staying current with the help of chat rooms like these and reviewing systems, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and assessments.

I'm still motivated to keep an aggressive search, it's just discouraging somedays.
