Student Health Profile and Depression

I have recently been admitted to the Clinical portion of an

Associates degree nursing program.

I have to fill out a Student Health Profile form, and submit

it with my acceptance form. I am currently taking medication

for depression.

Will taking this medication exclude me from the program?

I shouldn't. My the end of our education, most of the students in our program were either on a anti-depressant or something for anxiety.

You would be amazed at how many people are on anti-depressants (me included). Fill out the questionnaire honestly. It should not make any difference.

Not being on an anti depressant when you need to be would be a bigger deterrent.

A good friend of mine (who is an RN) has always said:

"I don't trust anyone over 30 who's not on antidepressants"

Guess she trusts me, then :wink2:

Absolutely not.

Depression is a clinically diagnosed syndrome. Unless it affects the safety and well-being of others, you should not be impeded. If it does, appeal it. Depression is a syndrome. They wouldn't exclude you if you had ACS would they? :)

Hey guys, I was glad to read your posts today on this subject. I am 50, only been an LVN for two years, work med surg, and going into the LVN to RN bridge in June. I'm taking the TEAS in a few weeks. I have such bad anxiety and stress and depression. I have fought not taking the Lexapro I was prescribed a year and a half ago (still haven't started it) and just keep suffering. But I am at the point where I don't think I will make it through another nursing program unless I get this anxiety under control. I literally get so stressed the night before I go to work I cannot sleep and have panic and anxiety attacks. What you guys have said makes me not feel so alone and like it's okay to take the medication. Oh, I also just went through menopause and have no hormones. Huh, nursing school and menopause, what was I thinking!!!! Thanks to all of you for sharing. You are my heros. :yeah:
