Cipro sounds odd to use for strep throat. I had to use it once last spring when I stepped on a rusty nail and had to get a Tetnus shot and be put in Cipro in case of infection.
Let me tell you. I will never again use Cipro for anything. It made me so sick. About 10-15 minutes after I would take it my heart would race and I would get light headed and dizzy and sweaty. I quit using it about 3 days into a 10 day supply. I'd rather take me chances with an infection.
My uncle is a chemical engineer for Bayer, the makers of Cipro. He said that it was originally designed to be administered to animals and they didn't change a whole lot about the drug when they started making it for humans. He said he'd never take it.

I read a report somewhere that about one in five people who took Cipro for anthrax could not tolerate it. It makes a very large portion of the people who take it very, very sick.

When my now 8 y/o son had strep a few yrs ago, Dr first had him on Amoxicillin but changed him to roxithromycin (Amox. was giving him nasty stomach pains). Roxithromycin helped.
Hope you are feeling better soon

Keflex(cephalosporin) is also used for strep if there is a PCN allergy.

She stated a few posts back that she is under the care of her doctor and is taking the Cipro as he prescribed.

That seems kind of interesting considering that a portion of those allergic to penacillin are also allergic to cephalosporins due to cross-reactivity.
Or maybe not. It looks like what I learned about this in my pharmacology class may be wrong.

I recently had strep throat and was prescribed Keflex. The only bad thing is that it really upset my stomach even when I ate with it. Hope this helps

Yep - 7 years is a long time to have strep throat - lol.
This is why we don't give medical advice.
