Hello everyone! I jsut wanted some feedback on this because it has been awhile since I've been in school. I start the LPN-RN Bridge program in November  and I wasn't sure if there were things I should stock up on before the program starts? My hours will drop down to 24hours a week and I would like if there's a such thing to be prepared before it starts. Any suggestions would be great!

I just got done with mine this summer. Be prepared, it is INTENSE!!!

I recommend a small recorder. I recorded every lecture, but never listened to them - not enough time. You have 1 year of material crammed into 6 weeks or so.

Get your normal school supplies: highlighters, pencils, pens, highlighters, paper, erasers.

The only other thing I would suggest is COFFEE, water, and hella lot of snacks (I was constantly snacking).

Start DVRing a totally mindless TV show... Because WHEN you do have spare time (your brain can NOT function but you can't sleep) you will want to watch SOMETHING that you don't have to think about and can be somewhat amused (I watched top model - I have never watched it before... but one Saturday, I watched it ALL...DAY...LONG. I could LITERALLY do nothing else.

Make sure you have your books. I found a care planning book helpful as well as note cards.

Good luck. It is PARAMOUNT you devote as much time as possible to school (if you can take a leave of absence just through transition) because it is intense. And no matter what, NEVER GIVE UP!

I am starting level 3 nursing the end of this week... compared to the hours we had for transition, this is going to be a cake walk (figuratively).

Good luck.

hahaha. I like the need to clarify "the drink"

The OP almost ran out and stocked up on cocain and peanut m&ms! haha

I second the nursing care plan book. It's a wonderful resource!! My school is pretty strict on APA format for writing papers so I got the APA Manual as well. A nurses drug guide is always helpful.

Oh and I have two NCLEX-RN books as well. Each quarter I work through the respective questions for the area we are studying. It really helps me prepare for the test and I think I'll be more ready for the NCLEX when the time comes as well.

I make freezer meals before every semester so we don't have to eat out

Lots of coffee because if you are still working, you won't be sleeping much.

Coke. The drug.

Index cards. Peanut M&M's sounds good too.

I second the idea of DVRing something mindless. I watched the back seasons of America's Next Top Model (feel free to mock me :) ) It was entertaining, but required no thought, so it was perfect for those days when my brain was fried.

Try to stock up on healthy snacks. I gained about 10 pounds during my program b/c I was eating junk.

LOL!!! This is EXACTLY what I watched... I never watched the show before, but I though - well, something entertaining and "mindless." It was... it definitely served its purpose :lol2:

I got the idea from one of my professors. She said she watched it while going for her MSN. LOL
