Should I have said something?

  1. Here's the situation..

While working in Emergency room I assisted a RN mini cath an obese woman. The RN opened the kit, donned sterile gloves, etc.. correctly. When she was inserting the cath though she had not exposed the correct area. She poked blindly.
Since I was gloved I exposed the correct area. The RN did not re-sterilize, nor get a different sterile kit. She used the same mini-cath that she had blindly poked around with.
I was shocked. Should she have gotten a new sterile kit and have started the pocedure over?
