Shadowing Friday...need some help

Hello everyone,

I am shadowing an RN on a Vascular Post-Op Floor. I'm SUPER excited, but could use a few tips.

What is the best nugget of shadowing wisdom you can offer? What is the best way to make a good impression? To speak and ask questions or be silent?

I'm trying to be uber-prepared, I've been researching vascular surgeries and even got a top 5 list of conditions/treatments that the hospital gives from the nurse i'm shadowing. Help is welcome!

Help when you can, stay out of the way if you can't. Remember that this is their territory, not yours so double check before giving food, etc. Ask questions but don't try to follow up with "I do that already..." or "I already know that..."

Remember, if you're shadowing to see if you like their job, they're also getting the chance to test you out too.

Smile.. smile.. smile. Be deferent to the nurse you are shadowing.

Don't interrupt the preceptor unless it is to offer help in your limited capacity.

If you ask questions, most likely the preceptor will see it as a challenge to his/her skills.

Did I mention .. smile.. smile .. smile?
