RN license Renewal period in CA

Hello. My Current RN license will be expired on 7/31/2018. The previous license was expired on 7/31/2016 and I renewed it on 4/5/2016. So I guess that this current license is valid from 8/1/2016-7/31/2018. Right? I am the one who wants to complete everything as early as possible. (I am kind of forgetful so I don't want to wait till the latest minute)

The BRN says, "Continuing education courses must have been completed during the preceding renewal period (when renewing)". Can somebody tell me when exactly my renewal period begins???? I thought that "preceding renewal period" begins 8/1/2016 and ends on 7/31/2018. So, I took the CE already on 2/20/2017. Am I OK??? I am a comparably new RN and this is my first time to get the CE done for renewal...Please help.

Hi there, I'm a fellow CA RN, and I help administer our CE provider program at my facility :) You've got it right. So when you renew next time, you will submit CEs obtained between 8/1/2016 and 7/31/2018.

Be sure and keep your certificates, including CE provider # and number of CEs awarded. You will be required to provide these when renewing. Also make sure the CE provider is CA BRN approved.

CA RNs do not need to complete CEs when renewing their first license, but must do so thereafter. It's basically an initial 2 year grace period.
