Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post.:typing

I am an RN with 5 years experience currently working in PCU in a central florida hospital.

My wife and I are considering moving to Maine. The state is beautiful, real estate is reasonable (especially compared to Florida), and we have spent time there during the winter and loved it!

My question is: what is the normal job outlook for RNs in Maine? I know it's slow now, but is there normally lots of work available? What are wages like? I know they're are probably low compared to some other areas, but in Central Fl wages are dismal, so I'm used to it. I am interested in anything-Hospital, Nursing Homes, Home Health, you name it.

Any input would be appreciated!:typing:D:yeah:

I, too, live in Florida and wish to semi-retire in Maine. I've done the summers and am ready to try a winter. I have a copy of Maine's application for a license and plan to send it up soon. It would be best to have a Maine license before you start your job search. You'd be surprised how many nursing opportunities are around, but if you don't want a floor or unit, home health is huge up there and there are a variety agencies looking for nurses. Craigslist.com can be set to Maine/Portland, or any of the surrounding areas, and look under healthcare. Also you can Google agencies in the area of Maine you wish to live.

I just finished a book The Lobster Chronicles and it would appear there are islands off the coast that all need healthcare; nurses, EMT's, docs. Unless you're in the Maine woods, there's plenty of people on and off those islands and Maine needs nurses like the rest of the country. Also, there's lots of great schools in Maine to continue your education. Good luck.
