RN back to Clinical Care--PLEASE HELP!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello my fellow nurses! I am new to all Nurses as well as my city, Tampa, FL. I am a young RN, I also have an MSN/MHA. I have worked in PICU, CICU and MICU and also in public health for the last 1.5 yrs. My husband and I have moved around quite a bit, due to his job... so my resume is a bit broken up. I really want to go back to clinical care, preferably ante/post partum, L&D or NICU, but am having the hardest time!!! I have also applied for other positions and haven't even been called for them? I am so concerned that I have ruined my career by going into public health????!!!! Please help!!! Any advice??:crying2:

Welcome to Tampa!!!

Have you tried applying at any agencies? There are a ton of them down here and it might help to get your foot in the door of a hospital in the area. Just a suggestion.

I don't think your predicament has anything to do with your job history, necessarily. I think it just has to do with the climate of nursing today and the economy....there aren't many jobs right now, and I'm sure there are many applicants for the ones that are available. If you're not getting call backs, it may be that they end up hiring for the position internally.

Keep trying, and in your resume/cover letter, really emphasize your strengths (like your degrees!). There are companies out there that can assist with resume writing, and consulting with one may help, to maximize the impact of your resume/cover letter. Hang in there, and good luck!
