Hello,

I am applied to RIC as a second bachelors degree student and am waiting to hear if I am accepted! I was just wondering if there are any second bachelors degree students already in the program that could tell me a little bit about it and what they think?! Thanks

Hi! :D

I am in the nursing program at RIC, but this is my first bachelor's degree. If you have any specific questions, please ask.....I do know a lot about the 2nd bachelor's process and I know some students in classes with me who have gone through it.

Chances are, you will be getting that letter any day now....I believe last year students received them around Dec 18th.

Hi,

I'm a 2nd degree candidate at RIC. My advice would be to make sure you petition to take all 4 intro nursing classes together if that's what you want to do. There's a form you have to get from the nursing office that your advisor has to sign. Next, the faculty will meet and decide whether or not they will grant your request. I wasn't aware of the whole petition process and so I was unable to petition in enough time. Unfortunately, my advisor isn't very informative so make sure you're proactive at your advising meetings.

Also, once you start clinicals, make sure you check the bulletin board outside the nursing office for info on your clinical site. This too was something that I was not aware of because no one told me! Other than that, I'm satisfied with RIC's program.... Starting with Fundamentals of Nursing Practice, you will take an ATI exam in order to pass the class, and subsequently, each nursing class requires that you pass the ATI to pass the class. Many students complain about this, but I don't think it's a big deal. They're prepping us for the boards.

Thank you so much! I did petition to take the 4 core classes together. I should be recieving my letter sometime after Christmas because the grades have to be in before they make any decisions. I have almost all A's in my prerequisites and an undergrad GPA of about 3.3. Im nervous I wont get in! What do you think?

Last year, they didn't wait for grades to come out to send letters. I got mine during finals week. Just wanted to give you the heads up! Good luck!

BTW- I had a 3.3 when I was accepted.

I know it stinks because we dont get the letter until after the 1st of January and the program begins on January 20th!!! Kind of rushed but hopefully I will get accepted. How do you like the school? Did you transfer?

Yeah, that's what they told us and we got our letters during finals week! lol...I was very surprised. I actually didn't get accepted that time (a year ago)..not due to GPA reasons, but space reasons in the program. I am now finishing my first semester (tomorrow actually- yay!) and it's gone very well.

I was a business/marketing major at a different school for over 2 years, and switched majors into nursing in 2006. I transferred to RIC at the beginning of 2007. I really like the program so far.

They told us during orientation last summer that they had a record number of applicants (600!) this year. So, it's competitive, but as long as you have a high GPA you're guaranteed to not wait more than 1 semester. They accept 90 students for fall and anywhere between 40 to 60 for spring.

I wish you luck with getting in for spring! Let us know what happens, and if you need any advice for next semester!:)

I think you'll get in. GPA is usually the deciding point because there are so many applicants. Don't worry about being accepted so close to the time for the semester to start. If you get in, the school will automatically register you. They will send you a letter and ask you to give preference to which section you want and that's it! Good luck!!

I will let you know what happens! Ive been trying to get into nursing school for over a year now so hopefully this will work out! Thanks for all your help!

Any news yet?? :D

Nothing yet!!!! I think I have been attacking the mail man for the past week. He doesnt like me very much. On a side note, I applied to MGH also and they had over 400 applicants for about 50 spots! Crazy huh? Soo I wont be hearing from them for a little while longer.
