Retirement in 25 Years???

  1. How come Firefighters, police officers, even Krogers( a local grocery store in the midwest) has early retirement in 25 years of service? Nursing however, does not. Why? Wouldnt this benefit bring more people into nursing? If a grocery store can give there employees early retirement, surely, our employers could work this out. 30-40 years in this profession is a killer. Its stressful and can reek havoc on our bodies, back, feet etc. Anybody else agree??

What a great idea! I have 27 years in the profession...and, at age 49, shudder to think of the physical challenge of working like this until I am 65 or 70! As I age, work-related injuries & strains take longer to heal, and the 12+ hour shifts are killers!
