From your post, it's obvious to me that you are not feeling well, and need to "call in" on Easter so that you might recover. To do otherwise might not be safe for your patients.
Right? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink...say no more.

Check to make sure Easter is a holiday though. I've worked the last 3 Easters in a row and can't complain because for whatever reason it always fell on "my" weekend :-/

i would not go above her head because you don't know what's going. you don't know if she's out sick, or checking the policy with hr. if you really want easter off, then call out; but don't expect everything to be fine if you do. if it comes back that you were not supposed to work easter and you did, tell you manager you want your next scheduled holiday off (which will probably be memorial day or the 4th of july).

i do know what's going on, actually. in our unit, holidays are assigned in one of three blocks, which rotates every year. major holidays are included (thanksgiving, christmas, new years) and so are lesser holidays (memorial day, easter, 4th of july, christmas eve, new year's eve, etc.) so while employees are not paid premium pay on easter, it is still recognized as a holiday in that employees are obligated to work if that's their block.
i have my own block of holidays that i am assigned to. i am not allowed to request those holidays off because they are in my block. however, my manager is saying that if i don't want to work then i have to use one of my two scheduled days off that week. that means that i never get to take a long weekend for a holiday, and let's hope i don't have any other obligations at a different time that week, because i have to specifically state i don't want to work a holiday.
i had already spoken to a rep from hr about this, and they confirmed what i said.

if you can't get resolution, and you really want the day off....I second the previous poster. Call in sick.

Asking you to use one of your flex days seems fair to me. You just have to manage your schedule around if you wanted to the holiday off. If she didn't ask you to use one of your 2 scheduled off days, then you would have 4 flex days- not 5 as your requirement (unless you have PTO or something).

Just call in... Problem solved. Now can we all go back to partying, sleeping, or etc... Merry Christmas to all and to all shut the hell up... (sips a drink that swallows sorrow)
Well it all worked out, thank God.
Work has to notify me by 5 am if I'm needed to come in and it's 5:45 and they haven't called, and I am no longer "on-call." So all my stress was for naught.
Thanks for the support, everyone. I'm very happy I get to spend Easter with my family.
Happy Easter!

Your immediate problem has resolved...congrats! But that deal about not being able to take a long holiday w/e is just bogus.
