If you are one of the lucky ones to be selected for a random drug screen you are given the opportunity to report any drugs, prescription or OTC, that you have taken in the last couple of months. No need to worry about it.

well there was one nurse who was drinking a herbal tea and tested positive for barbituates and they compared her meds she was taking and the information on the herb tea did not say anything about it being excreted in the urine therefor it was considered a positve test and she was terminated and reported to boards. so everyone is notified to check thier meds and stuff. thats why i am asking.

My question is to anyone with experience with this particular problem. My employer is initiating randon drug screens ( which i thought they already had) and we have been told to check the over the counter supplements we take to see if any of them come up postive on urine screen. .

I think it's highly inappropriate for the employer to make you find out what constituents in OTC supplements are going to come up positive on a drug screen. I think if someone takes Xanax for anxiety, you can mention that when you have the drug test but the OTC thing is ridiculous.

My suggestion is to just bring the bottle in to them and have them copy the stuff down...although that really shouldn't be your responsibility.
