question for all MSN graduates and students

I have a question for all MSN graduates and students. What did you do for your independent study or thesis? Trust me, I'm not trying to steal ideas. I've already begun to work on my independent study, but I would love to hear your stories. I am in the beginning stages, and I'm frankly very intimidated with how much work needs to be done. Everywhere I turn there are more obstacles, and more questions. So, please share so I know I'm not the only one who has ever been terrified at the prospect of taking on such a monumental task. Thanks in advance!!

Each school has slightly different rules and requirements when it comes to this. You committee chair is the one who should lay it all out for you and guide you through the process. I would highly recommend talking with oyur chair and getting that person to lay it all out for you, as we will all ahve very different stories of how that process went.

Good luck!:wink2:

I'm really not looking to have it all laid out for me. I have a very clear direction, actually, and am working with faculty at my school. I just wanted to hear about other people's experiences. I realize they will be different, and that's great! I basically want to hear from people who have lived through it. Like I said, it's intimidating and sometimes feels not really do-able. So please, anyone who wants to share-I would love to hear from you.

I had never even seen a thesis when I started grad school so I ordered 2 along with a dissertation just so I could see what they looked like, how they were put together, etc. The university I graduated from had a thesis guide online that made things clear as mud! Even though there were differences in format (all three were from different schools), actually being able to see the finished project helped me the most and showed me what I had to do. Good luck and God bless!:wink2:

I developed a self-directed learning module for nurses as well as a pre and post test to demonstrate whether learning had taken place. It was written up in thesis form and included a literature review, statistical methods. results and a discussion.

Be sure you choose something you are passionate about, because you will be spending most waking moments on it for several months!

Hope this is helpful and good luck!
