Question about Greater Cincinnati RN Schools

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello!

I am currently finishing up my Prereq courses for the RN program at Cincinnati State, psych, soc, a+p ect. Well Cincinnati state has a 2 year waiting list following the completion of the prereqs before you can attend actual nursing classes....my question is does anyone know if any of the other greater cincinnati RN schools dont have a waiting list? Bohecker, Beckfield, any of the other local schools like that? I have a 3.2 GPA following my completion of firefighter and paramedic school at Cincinnati State also so I donno if its possible to get bumped to the front of the lines with that kind of GPA. Any info that you may have reguarding waiting lists would be greatly appreciated! I am looking get into nursing and complete asap while I am still in the school mode... Thank you for your input!!!!!

Good Sam Cincinnati grad here... I had a similar background in fire/ems when I was applying and a considerably lower GPA than you. I was accepted without any issues and started school about six months after first applying. I don't know what the wait is like now but back then (2005) that was pretty good. I knew people who were on a 3 year waiting list at Christ.

As far as actual learning and clinical quality I would recommend Good Sam hands down. I work with people who are still (two years out) trying to pass the NCLEX who graduated from Gateway and NKU and recent clinical groups from Beckfield that have been on my unit have left some questions about their program too.

Good luck with your search and feel free to PM me if you want to ask any specifics.

Hi Brian

The Johnson and Johnson foundation has posted a listing of nursing schools without waiting lists. But I suspect with your strong experience you will be able to get in. Go to http://www.discovernursing.com to find the link of nursing schools with no waiting lists.

One more thing. Some Minnesota nursing schools have a fast forward program for Paramedics. You might check around to see if they have that in your state.

Good luck!

hello, you should apply to the christ college of nursing their deadline for fall admission is january 15th. even though is very competitive you have a great GPA and good healthcare background, get reference letters and you will have a good chance to get in. there is no waiting list is either u in or u not. but everything must be in by jan 15th. also good sam takes applications in august and january only. they have a waiting list but its only about 7 months. even though schools like cincy state and uc raymond walters have waiting list a lot of people drop out making the waiting length much shorter. you can work on ur classes for ur bachelors while waiting. just hang in there u will be an RN before u know it good luck.

did anyone apply to the christ college of nursing? i just got in looking to see who else thanks.

I got into Christ and I'm also accepted @ Good Sam. I'm trying to decide on the best route to go. It looks as if Good Sam prepares you for entrance into an RN to BSN program a little better than Christ (Chemistry etc. ) however Christ is a bit cheaper, which is a factor. Any advice?

i talked to my advisor at uc and she said even though christ does not require chemistry you would have to take it to do a rn to bsn and they have have programs with other schools to do the rn to bsn so the only difference btwn christ and good sam is that good sam has chemistry in their curriculm there is a waitilng list and it is more expensive. so either way both schools are good for the rn-to bsn route. this is what i would like to do as well so i have done research.
