Post Second Interview and question about following up-- time sensitive

I had an interview two weeks ago at a hospital that I would love to work for. I would like to know if I should contact one of the assistant nurse managers I met with to let her know I am interested. I considered not sending an email but the job posting is no longer on the hospitals site AND I just offered Full day time position at a nursing home where I work part time so I'm trying to figure out how to move forward.

Here's the back story. It is sort of long so I put it into bullet points to make reading it easier.

  • July 2015: Interview with HR as a new graduate with no experience.
  • A few weeks later I was schedule by HR for an interview with a Nurse Manager [on unit A]
  • When I went for the interview, the NM[ on unit A] wasn't there so I interviewed with the assistant nurse manager [on unit A]. The assistant nurse manager told me I'd hear back within a few days from HR since they were hiring quickly. Also, the assistant NM was going on vacation for two weeks literally right after my interview so I quickly and sent a thank you email.
  • I didn't hear from HR in a few days so I called HR but the HR woman I was supposed to hear from was on vacation.
  • I called HR in two weeks and the HR woman says she would contact the NM [from unit A] to find out her decision and get back to me by the end of the week. She emails me back telling me she still hasn't hear back from the NM.
  • I find out through a former classmate working [on the unit A] that the NM will be leaving the hospital in a month so I email the NM directly with my resume and tell her I'm very interested in the position , even though I didn't get a chance to actually meet her directly for the second interview.
  • I still haven't heard anything so I ask my classmate what's going on on her floor She tells me that that specific day is the NM's last days 9a lot sooner than the month ) so I quickly call the assistant NM from unit A. The assistant NM answers and tells me that today is the NM last day and they are about to have a meeting to decide what to do with the people they've interviewed and she tells me to email her my resume so she can bring to bring to the meeting. She tells me to email HR within two days and ask about their decisions.
  • The next day I get a call from HR saying the hiring is on hold because the NM is leaving and they have a new NM but the want to give the [new NM of unit A] a chance to get used to the unit. She also says the new NM is going on vacation for two weeks.
  • I call HR two weeks later and they say the new NM [ of unit A] wants to get used to the unit before hiring so I give it another month or so.
  • I email the new NM of unit A introducing myself and telling her I interviewed before but the change of management happened.
  • I check online and see that there are new postings for [ unit A] so I call HR about a week later and they scheduled me for an interview with the new NM [ of unit A]. I have to wait 2 weeks because I didn't have off from my other job and I was working on the day she had available.
  • During that 2 weeks of waiting for the scheduled interview, the two postings for that floor are taken down.
  • When I show up for the interview the new NM [for unit A] isn't there so I meet with the assistant NM [of unit B] .
  • It turns out that the new NM is just the Interim NM [for unit A] but her main role is the permanent NM [for unit B ] . The Assistant NM thought I applied for the RN position on unit B but I told her the situation.
  • The assistant NM of unit B took me to the assistant NM of [unit A's] office and I interviewed with the assistant manager [of unit B] for a day time position although I did not actually fill out an application for that unit. She also said a day position may open up mid December for her unit. The Assistant NM [ of unit A] whom I had already interviewed with over the summer was also present during the interview and she and mention that reason the positions where taken down from the website for unit A was because the day positions were taken by night shift staff and there were now a few night positions that were opening on her unit A
  • The assistant NM of [ unit B] told me that I would hear back in a few weeks directly from HR not her so to be in contact with HR.
  • After the interview I went online and applied for the position on unit B's just to have it on record in case I was offered that day position and sent a thank you email to the assistant manager of unit B.
  • Monday I got an automatic email saying that another candidate was chosen for a position on the unit B but I didn't even apply to be officially until after my interview with the assistant manager on unit B.I am not sure if that means I didn't get the position I interviewed for.
  • Also, during the interview, the other assistant manager [of unit A] seemed like she was interested in hiring me. In fact, she had my resume from when I had interviewed with her before and printed it out for assistant manager B. She also said it's a great facility and I should consider a night position on her unit if I don't get a day position on unit B.
  • What I gathered during the interview was that the assistant managers of unit A and B communicate often so I'm not sure if I should just assume that assistant NM A will contact me if the assistant NM B is not interested in hiring me or if I was interviewing again for unit A. In fact, when assistant NM unit B asked Assistant NM A if she had any questions for me, Assistant NM unit A said , "No, we talked during the first interview" and gave a genuine smile and talked more about the hospital.
  • I won't be sending assistant NM from unit B another email as she clearly said, HR will contact me from here on out. But, I want to let the assistant manager from unit A know that I'm interested. I was thinking of sending her an email telling her that I would like to work on her unit for one of the open night positions.

What a mess. I say screw these people and HR. Very disorganized on their part. I would take the day position in LTC and re-apply to unit C or whatever in a couple months.

When is the last time you spoke with or emailed with Assistant NM A? If it's been more than two weeks, I would say it's okay to just send a very brief email, stating that "Unit B hired another candidate, and I just wanted to follow up and let you know I'm still very interested in the position on your unit if you are still hiring."
