Just wondering for those of you seeing lots of pnemonia patients who have the flu, do you know if they had the pneumonia vax and still contracted it?

for the most part, no, in our facility. H1N1 has a greater impact on young, healthy immune systems that over-react and create pneumonia complications or even ARDS. Since the vaccine is not generally recommended for healthy people till >65 most have not been vaccinated.

Our H1N1 co-infected patients are usually under the age of which the Pneumovax is normally given. Most of the co-infected are anywhere from late 30s to 50s, so well under the age of 65, when Pneumovax is usually given.
Hmmm, maybe I'm confused. I'm speaking of the peds pneumonia vax given by 1 year of age. I keep hearing about the peds flu cases that have end up w/pnemonia, so I'm wondering if those peds had their scheduled pneumonia vax. All replies GREATLY appreciated :)
