Please help with Nursing Interview Questions!

Hey

I am also a new grad

here are a few of the quesitons that i have been asked in interviews

Where do you see yourself in 5 years etc?

Short term and Long term goals?

Why do you want to work here (either facility or specific unit)?

How did you find out about us?

Why did you want to be a nurse?

Explain a time you had a difficult patient and/or co workers and how you dealt with it

What personalities do you clash with?

What are you interested in doing?

How do you deal with stress/ What stresses you out?

How well do you work in a team/ what do you usually do?

In school what were your favorite and least favorite clinicals and why?

What are your interests/hobbies

One guy asked me what my responsiblity was for thanksgiving

At a LTC facility

I was asked are you detailed oriented?

In a 6 month period how many times do you think it's acceptable to call out of work?

What Management/leadership experience do you have?

Experience with doing injections, what kinds?

And "tell me about yourself"

Be sure to ask questions about the facility you are interviewing at and have some prior knowledge about the place (look at website at mission and values, awards issued etc) Also I usaully bring a folder with me to the interviews with a few extra copies of my resume on good resume paper. It is also helpful because they will ususally give you a packet of things like benefit and job description, etc.

Those are all very good questions which I have heard several times in interviews. Also what are your strengths/ weaknesses? What can you bring to this facility. They may also give you some delegation situations.

what about questions regarding specific nursing care? I had one interview for critical care where they asked me what I would do if the ventilator alarm went off, and another question about what I would do if the patient had increased HR, Sats were in the 80s, and shallow respirations.

Don't be too overwhelmed by questions like that! If you're applying as a new nurse your interviewer knows that you don't have a large base of experience. Take a deep breath and always go back to your A-B-Cs - don't overthink the questions. For a ventilator alarm for example check the patient. Look at the alarm. Determine what the alarm is. Assess the patient. Assess the equipment. Go through trouble shooting. You don't have to know everything but a lot of critical care is thinking logically and using common sense.

Don't get too involved in trying to anticipate what questions you will be asked. Be calm, confident and most of all be yourself. Remember every interview you do is more practice for the next one. It is important to be sure not to have anything on your facebook that you don;t want a prospective employer to see. Keep it professional. Relax and take a deep breath, you will do great.

Many interviewers are also going to Behavioral type questions. Not saying they will but be prepared in case. I know as a DON and several other interviews I recently underwent myself utilize this format. I used it also when I gave interviews. You can revamp them to fit nursing. Also if you check on the same site there are other general interview questions and replies that may help you. One question that threw me was "Tell me what sets you apart from other nurses and people". Also take your time and dont try to answer immediately. Pause, think of your answers then give them. I kept a little notebook with all the possible questions I could think of with my answers to glance at when I needed to. I also wrote all my questions down for the employer.

Hi! I applied for a band 6 nursing post as Care Coordinator and shortlisted. They are asking me for a 10 minutes presentation regarding this The enhanced service is a new concept, what knowledge and expertise can you bring to support the development and improvement of this service and what benefits do you envisage?
