Oral surgery RN or Med-Surg??

Hi there!

I am a a brand new RN grad in the Toronto Canada area.

I have been scheduled for an interview at a hospital for a part time position on a Med-Surg unit but it isn't until March 27th.

I have also been offered an interview tomorrow for a part time RN position in an Oral Surgery clinic. This position would start ASAP with full time hours in surgery training all of March.

I'll be moving away in August so these positions would be temporary. I'm leaning towards oral surgery simply for the time convenience as I would like to start ASAP.

Can anyone advise if this is a smart decision? I was also considering working both jobs if the timing permitted.

Oral surgery nursing is very specialized. Working a few months, as a new grad, on a med/surg floor would look much better on a resume. Of course doing both if you can is fine.

I would hope you'd let the oral surgery office know you will be leaving in August. They are going to put a lot of money, time, training, into you to have you leave after 5 months.

If I'm reading this correctly, you haven't been offered either job at this point? Why are you trying to "decide" between the two?

You need to realize that taking any job, and knowing you will be gone in 5 months, is not fair to the employer. With either job, most of the 5 months will be orientation.

It will not look good on your resume.

Spend this time looking for a job where you land in August.
