i've worked in some sort of medical field for the last 10 years and i've acquired tons of scrubs that i just don't wear anymore. you know the kind, too little, too dingy, too big, etc.

they keep piling up around the house in various places but i just can't seem to just throw them away! i've mowed the lawn in scrubs, i've scrubbed the floor in scrubs, i've washed the car in scrubs, i've slept in scrubs........i've tried every way i know to wear these things to a frazzle so i can toss 'em in the trash and it's just not working.

what do YOU do with your old scrubs?

Donating scrubs that are still in good condition to goodwill makes them available at a reasonable price to others. Many of the new nurses I work with go that route.

very good ideas one and all. i think tomorrow, i will bag up some stuff and drop at goodwill. :) thanks all.`

Use them as PJs...lol I'm not kidding....I have a pair of hospital scrubs from somewhere in Chicago that my ex gave me as a birthday present. Before you think 'how tacky', he has travelled all over the place and collects them from all his 'tours of duty'. I'm sure it must have broken his heart to give away part of his collection. lol

I'll be starting my new position on Monday! The hospital provides scrubs for it's ICU and ED staff. I have a whole closetful of scrubs. I still have to wear my own jackets but the pants and tops will go unworn. I'd hate to give anything away cause then with my luck, I'd need scrubs again in a few years for a new job or something like that. So, I think that I'll keep the white ones and pack some away and then maybe sell the rest.

Like shay, I wear them around the house on lazy days. Ya know, those days where you want to get out of your jammies, but don't really want to commit to getting fully dressed?

I do the same thing. I'm rarely out of them on days that I have no errands to run.:)

Specializes in ER.

I couldn't use them for lazy days, get hospital stress when I wear them. But they were very comfortable and effective when I had to drive 10h in a day-so there's a good use. Let's hear it for conditioned responses.:)

You guys are so lucky to be able to wear scrubs. I work in an acute and elective orthopaedic ward in a big Public Hospital in New Zealand and we are not allowed to wear scrubs....we wear a white dress with blue epelets and buttons down the front blue strip across the pockets...we would all love to be able to wear scrubs but the only areas that do are theatre, ITU, CCU and a few that manage to aquire them to wear on nights...........I could nto get away with wearing them during the day...as CNL's are there...jan

When our hospital made the rule that all the scrubs throughout the house had to be the same color our department had a bunch to get rid of. We were allowed to take some home if we wanted, but the rest were donated to a medical mission team that was on their way to South America. They really appreciated them!

What a nice idea !

I use my old scrubs (pants) cut up and used to put finish on my woodworking projects. The tops I use as "shop shirts" that I don't have to worry about getting dirty.
