Oh this !!XXOO!!! "not a good fit"

Did they say what the specific issues were? I hire new grads. I make sure the managers give them evals at 30, 60 90 days. This is part of the learning experience. Anything negative on the eval would only be something that has been explained to them and they are still not doing. If I let them go at 90 days, it is because they ignore what they are told and continually make the same errors.

I have never let someone go just because they are slow, the speed will come with time.

They did you wrong! Two and a half months in orientation (poor orientation at that) and such a quick decision.... do NOT let it get you down. Go out and apply elsewhere and take a positive attitude. The above comment is good advice.

I did nursing at 39 and to make matters worse, the SAT score (I took SATS my last year of high school like the rest of the world) were "lost"..I even went straight to the Princeton offices for help in searching. So, I had to take them over again almost 20 years after initially taking them.... picture this: me in my pants suit sitting on a Saturday among local high school kids and RETAKING the GD things...never mind I didn't touch the math section.... the nursing school required me to take the Math courses all over - O my Gosh! But, I wanted to be a nurse and nothing was going to stop me... now you have your dream - dig in and don't give up!

Wish I could precept you myself!!

Many times ihave read post by nurses who went through something like you are currently going through. Most of them later report that they eventually found another job and it is working out. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your support. This form page is a grat help. It is being of my age that I fear that it will make it difficult. I did find it very stressful to try and keep up with the young ones. Hey what a great verse at the end.

Make an assessment of what you want to do and go for it. Unfortunately you are seeing firsthand the true nature of healthcare. This is becoming more and more common. The phrasing that I really hate these days is "you're not a good fit". Talk about a load of bull.

I would suggest that you document everything. The good thing you have going in your favor is your age. You can use it to your advantage. Age discrimination is the new biggie. If you can cut the mustard but simply are a little slower than a 19 year old would be - you've got a great case for discrimination if you document everything.

Remember, the name of the game is CYA. I highly recommend all nurses document their day at work after each and every shift. You never know when you will need that documentation and by the time you do need it, it is too late to catch back up.

just curious. why did you leave your other job? sounded like a dream job. can you go back to it? don't feel bad about getting fired after two months, i got fired after two weeks!! it was pediatrics and i measured a 6 foot tall kid wrong by one inch and i got fired for that!! hang in there, you'll fit in just fine. :redbeathe

Remember, the name of the game is CYA. I highly recommend all nurses document their day at work after each and every shift. You never know when you will need that documentation and by the time you do need it, it is too late to catch back up.

What kinds of things do you document daily? How do you document your day without violating patient confidentiality? Have you ever had to dig up that documentation and was it useful? I can just hear the manager saying it's not part of the patient chart.

Hey, the same thing happened to me when I was a new grad. This was years ago. So they told me I was "not catching on fast enough, and too nervous". GEE, wonder why after 90 days with 7 different preceptors and working nights then classes days, then switching to days with new staff.Those nurses were pirranahs, but mean. Just here, do this, and find me in the morning so I can fix all your mistakes. I was fired exactly at 90 days.

BEST thing that ever happened to me. If not for them I would have never gotten my last job which I loved and my new job which I am growing into nicely.

So move on, you have a gift and it will shine. Just those dummies loss!

Yes it was a secure job and no I can`t go back. Two reasons,1, wy did I spent all that money and dream of being an RN, 2,you do have to say that they money from a phleb. to a RN can be motivating. Part of the idea was to be able to work less hours and still make as much if not more.Kind of a semi retirement. I could work three days as a nurse and make as much as the other job.
