OH, My Aching Feet...

Nurses General Nursing

I have had plantar fasciitis for about 20 years in my right foot. The only thing that helps bring a measurable amount of relief is wearing high heels; obviously, I can't wear those with my scrubs.

I have tried those shape-up type shoes and they're okay as long as I'm not standing for more than a couple of minutes.

I'm looking for shoes that will accommodate my big, wide feet, and fallen arches. Something that I can stand in for long periods of time, too.

Thanks.

Don't wear the shape ups to work. I did for about 3-4 months. Then I started getting hip pain and sciatica. So I got regular sneakers and it went away.

But I was watching the news and this lady wore the shape ups and she got hip pain and she went to the doctor and they did an x-ray and she had a hip fracture.

Wow, no kidding? Poor lady. I have two pair of shape-up type shoes. One pair are made by Dr. Scholls, which are far more comfortable than my Skechers Shape-ups; regardless, both pair are killing my feet.

I have big wide feet with no arches. I've been wearing Danskos the past 3 years and my feet are happy. Occasionally my feet will ache when I finally go to bed, but that's only because I had a busy night and little time to sit down. I don't think there's a shoe on the planet that can solve that for me.

A warning though - they are terrible to break in. I'm on my second pair and it usually takes a good 3 weeks for them to feel good.

And oddly enough, a woman here wore the shapeups, started having hip pain, and ended up having two hairline fractures in both hips  When I heard the story on the news that's when I decided not to try those out lol

Get a pair of Asics Gel Kayano in a wide width. Your feet will thank you.

Go to a sport shoe store with a computerised assessment scanner, get your feet properly assessed and fitted for a pair of shoes. advice over the net for shoes doesn't work too many opinions hard to know who to believe. A year ago I went and spent AU$200 on a pair of runners. best investment I ever made. they lasted a year, I work full time and it averages out at less than $4 a week.

I used to have sore foot after working my shift. I pulled most of the ligaments in my foot when I was 17. I was in a cast for months and now the arch is almost flat.

I haven't had achy foot problems since I found Keen Ridgelines on line. Lot of the Staff at work were wearing them. Love 'Em! Now I have a pair for around town and a pair for at work. (My last pair I bought thru Shoebacca.)

I wore Birkenstocks for 10 years for plantar fascitis. Then one arch fell and I couldn't tolerate the Birkenstock in that foot. Fortunately, Dansko's worked like a charm for me. I don't even think of my feet during the day, which is miraculous.

However, you must be fitted and receive advice from a good shoe store salesperson. It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution.

:lol2:Oops, no pun intended.

Maybe if you go to (or call) a specialized running shoe store they can give guidance. I had no idea the different types of running shoes there are available until I was fitted. They observed my gait, assessed my arches and found a category that felt great on my feet! My nursing shoes are Dansko clogs and so far I love them!

Here is a link to the running spot that I mentioned. They are in Cincinnati, Ohio. http://www.runningspot.com/ - the staff is quite helpful.

Good luck to you! Aching feet are no fun.

My sister works for a chiropractor Ans she suggested I get custom made orthotics. They take a mold of your feet and send it off, takes about a week. They're kinda uncomfortable during the break in period but after that I've never had heel or arch pain since. You can transfer them to any shoe so you can wear any kind of shoes you like! Cost about $120. And your insurance may even cover it, I just hadn't met my dme deductible.

I wear Danskos. I love them, my feet don't hurt at the end of the day. You must try them on though...each pair is hand made, and the size varies.

I would go to a specialized shoe store that will custom fit your shoes. I work with two nurses that had your problem. They went custom and have been ok since.

As for my, I wear Sanita and Timberlands.
