So I'm super undecided on whether i want to go into nursing or radiology tech field. I was recently reading up on rad vs US tech and found out that radiology techs typically are trained to do ultrasound as well. My main factors are: 1- Salary 2- Work load 3- flexibility in schedule.

I have a 4yr old and I'm finding it difficult to make a career choice.

Are you in the US? U/S is its own modality, with it's own registry and governing body, ARDMS> Rad tech is the ARRT> Both require school, at least 2 years. Rad techs are able to train to perform CT scans, MRI, Specials and Nuclear Medicine. (And there is a registry for each of those). You have to retake the registry every 10 years now. I am not sure if ARDMS requires techs to retake their registry every 10 years.

I am a retired RT® and quite honestly, I hated it I do like nursing. My husband is also a retired RT®(ct) and he misses it. (To the point he's going to go back to work prn starting in January). I would suggest that you shadow a nurse and a rad tech and an u/s tech to help with your decision. Best of luck to you.
