Nursing Drug Handbooks

  1. How often do you need to upate your Nursing Drug Handbook? I'm a new grad and got mine when I started my nursing program in 2003.

    If you can swing it, a yearly update is great (always new stuff coming out.) This is my standing Christmans gift from my dear mother per my request lol.

    Check with your co-workers to see if anyone uses a PDA and connected updating PDR program. This may give you an idea if this is the way for you to go.

    You can update daily if you want and it ends up being cheaper than buying a new book yearly that is out of date within a month.

    Your facility may also have a program that they connect to, if you are at all computerized, and looking up meds can actually be faster than trying a book.
