Nursing certification question

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am a new grad and I am trying to find a job which obviously thats what all new graduate nurses are doing but anyway, I was wondering if any of those certifications for example the critical care certifications would make me stand out more to a nursing recruiter. I am also not sure if those certifications are only eligible to those who are already working in that specialty. Also, if anyone has any suggestions to help me stand out as a nurse I would really appreciate it. thank you.

You have to already be working in that area and have so many documented hours worked to take the cert exam. It would be pretty hard to pass the exams without both of those things, anyway. They are pretty involved. HTH.

Could you be referring to ACLS and PALS type certifications? If so, I would not waste time or money on those till hired for a position that calls for it. Recruiters do not expect new grads to have the same credentials as experienced nurses. In fact, I do not recommend those courses for new grads till they have been with us at least 6-12 months because they need to learn SO MUCH ELSE first. No need to overwhelm them. Employers are looking for maturity, a license, good hygiene, and your most important accessory - a smile.
