Nursing Career Advice

Nurses General Nursing

Hi everyone! I was hoping to get some advice...I'm currently a freshman in college and considering changing my major to get my RN. My mother has been an RN for over 20 years and is biased when it comes to the idea of her daughter "having to work as hard as she does". She thinks it's a horrible idea, I really want to do it. I was hoping to get other RN's opinions on their profession. Thanks!

It been a wonderful career for me. Yes at times it has been hard work but so has other professions. It gives you, besides satisfaction of doing good work for individuals; flexibility in when where and how you work, relative stability during recessions and above average earning potential. Follow your heart.

Thanks! Do you have your RN or BSN? I think I'll get my RN and work and if I want to go back for my BSN or MSN.

The nursing profession is very diverse. You have the ability to work in any area of the medical field pretty much. On top of that you are able to go for further education if you decide to do do even more with your nursing skills.

Although you are a freshman there are still many careers that you may choose. If you have a strong desire to work in the healthcare field then start looking into all the different professions it has to offer. You are very young and have all the time in the world to be anything you want.

I wanted to become a pharmacist when I was a freshman in college. However I was not commited or serious about my schooling. So my grades dropped and I was no longer able to get into that area, but I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field still. I finished off my Biochemistry degree and went into an accelerated nursing program. So in turn, I was able to study something other than nursing essentially but still became a nurse in a timely fashion.

So again my suggestion is to look into other healthcare professions as well. If you choose something else, nursing will always be an option in the end after your 4 years of college. Nursing is an absolutely wonderful profession, and definitely is hard work but I am glad that my past mistakes has led me to this path. Everything happens for a reason =D.
