Nurses, do you thank your CNA/PCA/Nursing Assistant daily?

In the past six weeks, only two nurses have thanked me sincerely for doing a good job for them at the end of our shifts together. I stopped in my tracks and was so pleased and moved that I almost cried. :cry:

Do you thank your nursing assistant at the end of the day? If not, start now and watch the difference it makes. Look him or her right in the eye and mean it! Your assistant will go home that night feeling it was all worth it. She'll probably tell her husband and kids that she had a great day all because of your sincere gratitude.

Yes, if they do a great job, I thank them profusely. Unfortunatly for some reason we had a lot of techs who would disappear for oh hours at a time and nobody could find them.

But yes, the ones who actually work I always say please and thank you through out the day and let them know how much easier they make my day and to let me know if they need help changing my patients, doing beds, whatever.

I may not verbally say "thank you" everday to my PCT, but whichever PCT is working with me all ways knows that I am all ways willing to help out with patient care, and that they can ask me to lend a hand if they are busy. IMO, actions are just as important as words when it comes to feeling respected.

I always do, and I try to help as much as possible, but sometimes I feel like my aides think I get in their way (I work in LTC).

I lost my workhorse CNA on 11-7, who recently went to weekends. I miss her dearly and my shift is slowly going to crap without her :(

ChristineN, I agree that actions (such as always being willing to help) is HUGE! The other day I answered a call light for a patient for whom I was not assigned. While I had a new admission just arrive, I thought that getting a woman off of a bed pan and cleaning poop off her butt, back and bed was more important. The poopy patient's nurse was outside of the room charting on the portable computer when the call light went on. She came in to help me only when I called for help 10 minutes into the clean-up. This patient was bedridden and obese. Not only did the nurse not thank me, but she told me that I "totally had the clean diaper in the wrong position (sigh!)"

75% of the nurses I help are grateful and helpful too! Passive aggressive comments and sarcasm just annoy me to no end!

God, I appreciate good nurses!

Wow I never thought of that ! I've been working under a nurse for almost three years now and yes she recognizes that I do an excellent job( I'm basically her eyes and hears), but have she ever Thanked me, actually she hasn't.

I guess as long as I know I'm doing a great job thats all that matters.

However, as a student nurse I ALWAYS thank my nurses, techs, housekeeping and whoever else for their help and assistance when helping a poor, lost nursing student !

I work with several CNA's who will not stop their texting/checking email/planning vacations to answer call lights and actually get defensive with me when i ask them to do their jobs. I don't thank these people at all.

I also work with several CNA's who go above and beyond and really get their work done and their help is so incredibily appreciated that i have to let them know how much i enjoy working with them and appreciate their hard work.

I always try to thank them. If it wasn't for CNA's, housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, supply, etc... we wouldn't be able to our jobs! I have had problems with some in the past, but for the most part, they are extremely helpful, conciencious and truely care about patients.

Yes, I thank them often, and when they take on extra duties or are especially good with a resident, I'll write them an "Above and Beyond" card to post on the bulletin board (these not only recognize individuals for good performance, but give them a chance at winning as much as $50 in cash at our staff meetings). I value my aides and learn from them..........they are my eyes and ears!
