Nurse Games

No, not games that nurses play with each other, but actual games that might help with nursing.

For example: I love playing Minesweeper because it trains my brain to think in logical, deductive steps; Freecell, because it helps me see steps far in advance and helps with future planning/preparedness; and Tetris, because it helps with critical thinking and rapid decision making under increasing pressure.

Any others that people use/play to train their brains?

i play a game called tangleword at lycos.com.

its like boggle. cant say what it does for me but a LOT of nurses play that game.

Imagine having the edge in medical jargons like coeliac, ossific, apnoea, zygoma, dysuria, icterus ... as the opponent drastically challenges the words with disappointment.:)

No idea if this helps me with nursing but I'm addicted to an massive-multiplayer-online-roleplaying game called "Asheron's Call." It's kind of a dungeons-and-dragons thing where you have a character that runs around the country killing monsters and going on quests with other characters who may be from all different parts of the world. Your character gains experience, acquires money and items (armor, weapons, etc.) and joins fellowships and allegiances. It's quite complex and utterly fascinating and becomes a real social experience. My husband plays and he is my "patron" and we have a monarch and a real support system. You can't even begin to understand how LARGE this is until you see it in action...

Any other role-playing fanatics out there (Everquest, Ultima, Dark Age of Camelot or better yet Asheron's Call)?

AACCKKKK!

I'm sure everyone by now knows my opinion of Evercrack aka Everquest. Hubby ended up getting a memory and video card upgrade for Christmas because he couldn't play Shadows of 'somthinrother' (the newest add-on). Yes, I know, I'm weak...

I refused to buy him Asheron's Call. At least Delta Force 2 was fun to watch him play...kinda like an Arnold movie.

I play Freecell compulsively, I have no idea if it helps me in nursing.

Heh, Kids-r-fun, I know what ya mean. Hubby first bought Asheron's Call and played like a maniac. To get me to quit griping at him, he created a character for me. Well, I have never played a video game in my life! But....I got hooked. I think it's the social interaction of thing that grabbed me. I just fascinating that you can develop this character with it's own set of skills, can role-play (though few really do) and retreat into a whole new world, complete with other people! There's a whole continent of places to explore in the land of Dereth (the land mass in the game).

I got a free BOGGLE cd on a Cheerios package? Love it! It's relaxing, and addictive!

There is an article in this month's Modern Maturity about keeping your memory sharp, encouraging you to play word games, do crosswords, puzzles, etc.

So now I can think of my game playing as therapuetic. Now if it could help with my spelling???

Have fun out there!

My wife (who is also an RN) and I like to play a game that really helps to relax us after a stressful day. We can play it together and we never get bored with it. We call the game "Hide the sausage." :D Gary

OMG cmg....that is hilarious. just what i needed to read after a long midnight shift!!!!

matt, awesome topic. i never really looked at it in that sense. now i guess i have more of an excuse to play games!!! along with minesweeper, freecell, and tetris...i found myself addicted to dr. mario for years. maybe it has something to do with all of those pills! :)

Hide the sausage? hmmmm....Now THAT's the best game they ever came out with...so far. BUT, I've recently become addicted to these two games on excite.com and they're free called "collapse" and "bounce out." Collapse is what you do after you found "the sausage!" LOL ;)
