Non Nurse Threads

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have noticed a few threads from non nurses who post threads asking for our opinions about the care they or thier family members received in the hospital. They usually want to know if everything was appropriate. If they are asking, then something probably was wrong. Sometimes we find out later in the thread that they are getting or already have a lawyer or a case pending. Is it really such a good idea for us to answer these type of posts? This BB is for nurses, us. Not for ANYONE ELSE, IMO.

If a person who wanted to join this site had to submit a license, license #, Driver's License, Student I.D., etc. wouldn't that leave more of a paper trail if a Lawyer or employer did want to track a person down for writing a particular post?

Exactly!! No technique is perfect. And if those people were turned in by fellow nurses, than that pretty much defeats the whole purpose, right? They have real license #'s to give. I personally think that trolls would appear to be the least of the worries. You can ignore them or whatever. Seems like it's fellow nurses we should all be scared of. That sucks... Hadn't heard about that happening SusyK...what a bunch of crap...

Yup. Happened here. Twice. And now two of the best and funniest nurses here are in hiding.

I'll quote happywendy here: "whatever"

I'll say it again...I don't think it's trolls from bf.com anyone should be worried about...pi$$es me off that someone would spy on their coworker like that...Don't those two have some recourse they could take??:(

Another thought,

If you had to submit your license # it might add a certain amount of "credibility" to this website and what people post here.

I'm thinking in the context of someone comes to this site (non-medical) and asks about the care a relative received, etc. or looks over the posts for "medical advice".

I can see it know -

"Lawyer - so Mr. X, why didn't you seek medical attention when you started having chest pains?"

"Mr. X - Well, you see I wasn't sure if it was serious so I went to this website and from what I read it didn't seem like I had a serious condition. They are all licensed nurses there you know".

Just another thought. The above is in no way meant to trivialize any of this. I'm just trying to give you a basic example so you better understand what I am saying.

Well in those two examples, they WERE fellow nurses yes, but I was only using that as evidence that identifying users here and being held to what you say here CAN effect your "non-cyber" life, because some people were poo-pooing that idea as paranoia.

Yes, we as nurses can do that do each other, so don't you think that NON nurses would be just as, if not, more willing?

I'm very confused by all of this.

Do I have this straight....someone (or maybe more) posted on this bb and was fired for what he/she said?? Is that right?

If so, how did the employer figure out who said what? Did the poster talk at work? Did the poster sign his/her real name? Did the poster discuss a patient by name?

As for tracking any poster by their e-mail address. That information could only be provided by the server. I know AOL doesn't give out that information without a subpoena.

So how did this all happen?

Then why don't you allow other users to email or PM you? Spammers? Um, yeah.

You obviously don't know the people that got burned here, so the how's and why's aren't really relevant to you. You ask lots of questions.

I smell a ratfink.

you know, if there is one thing i have come to know about big daddy is that he does not tolerate blatant displays of unprofessional behavior on this board.

i'm confident that any lurkers and undesirables will be dealt with swiftly and professionally.... that is if we don't get to them first....

how does that one song go......."tell it like it is......let your conscience be your guide.......tell it like it is....." :chuckle

My dear Heather....

Why so hostile? And, why are you call me names? All I did was ask a question.

Hmmmm. I'm not your dear.

You asked a question that I don't feel the answer to is any of your business. I'm hostile because the place and the people I hold dear are being threatened, and I'm angry about it.
