does anyone know how hard it is to get a job as a NICU nurse? It is my dream job and I graduate next year with an associates of nursing. I am going to be getting my bachelors right after, but regardless does anyone have any feedback? Any NICU nurses?

Location matters a lot for a question like this one.

Depending on location: Possible to very difficult. There are AN members that have been trying for years to get a NICU job and there are members, like me, that got a NICU job as a new grad. I applied to between 50-100 NICU openings nationwide and had 2 interviews.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Generally speaking NICU, pediatrics, L&D, ICU and ER are the top contenders in the popularity contest for preferred specialties. This translates to them being the most competitive when it comes to getting a foot in the door.

As mentioned above, location matters a great deal. In the major city I live in, a two year degreed RN would not have a prayer of getting into the NICU due to an overabundance of BSNs that want the same thing. However, go down to the Texas/Mexico border and it is a different story.
