New Town and Job

I am in a new town for a while and finally found a job in a local hospital. There is not much around town or any nearby cities to commute for a position. I was happy to get the job.

I think I am adjusting well to my position considering, although my preceptors have been pushing me hard from day #2 and are not nice people.

The worst is the patient load in numbers and work intensive patients. It's too much. I don't feel safe practicing here. I probably won't feel safe for a long time, if at all.

Any advice or input? Should I start looking for a different job now? I do need to work.

Give it some time and be patient. You're in a new town, new job which is very overwhelming at the beginning. Eventually your co-workers will warm up too, but they are likely feeling you out.

Show them that you are willing to learn and accept feedback. You could start looking for another job, although I would suggest staying for at least one year. Employers do not look favorably on candidates who frequently change jobs.

It's never easy at the beginning. Good luck!
