Hi. I'm seeking some advice. I recently graduated from an RN/MSN program and I am looking for my first job. I plan to continue taking classes part time over the next few years toward my FNP post masters certificate while I work. My long term goal is to work as an FNP in a community clinic setting. My question is: what type of experience as an RN would be best in preparing me for work as an FNP in the community setting? I am currently considering a postion as a staff nurse on a cardiac step-down unit and a position as a nurse case manager in a community clinic. Would it be best to go straight to work in a clinic since that is where I ultimately plan to practice or do I need hospital experience?
