Hi my name is marianys i passed my board last year. I've been looking for a job since i have applied everywhere and everybody turns me down because i need 1 year of experience. I need all new grads to help me please i called the state board and they told me to call the hospital and nursing association in my state, i need all new grad from florida that dont have a job to let me know because i'm going to talk to them and they evidence . This is not only for florida you can do it in your state too. If you graduated and dont have a job we need to speak up !!!!!!!!

This will probably be an issue until the economy picks up. The facilities can pick who they want to hire and they don't want to spend the $$$ now training people. Come to upstate NYS, they are still hiring new grads in the hospital. Although not in the droves they were.

Sighs...I am in the same boat. No one wants to hire me because I have no experience as a new nurse. I applied up state New York but have not gotten an answer. I am praying that I get a job really soon.

I know that a few hospitals are still hiring but it's hard to find them. I'm going to talk to the nursing association and present this issue,they're discriminating us because we are new. It's hard to understand that after everything you went trough at school you to get your license you would be without a job. If we sit around and do nothing nothing it's going to happen, new need to step up and talk to those people after all this is a democracy.

Am glad you took the exam and passed. I am in my first year and having my third exam tomorrow. My exam is going to base on Hypertension, Oxygenation and Nurtrition or diabetes. Any information on website that i will get information on? pls let me know.

As hard as it is for you, please remember that the problem is not unique to nursing. There are new accounting graduates that are not finding jobs, new physical therapy graduates that are not finding jobs and new law school graduates that are not finding jobs. I am glad you are eager to work and I hope that you find a solid position soon but, in the meantime, try not to take on the 'victim' role. It will make it harder for you to keep your focus and it might accidentally creep into an interview or application.

Here is my best advice as a 24 year RN: Make the pursuit of a job your full time job - put in full 8 hour days of looking, applying and interviewing. Keep checking back with all potential employers on a regular basis [most have websites now that change daily] and try to get that first job as soon as possible. Don't hold out for the 'perfect' one - just get your foot in the door. Do your very best work even if you think your talents could be better utilized elsewhere and make sure that you can get a good recomendation if you ever decide to move on. Lastly, remember what this moment feels like so that, when the time comes and you are the one that gets to do the hiring, you can be the manager that every new RN needs in that first position.

No offense but it's not discrimination to hire someone with experience over a new graduate nurse, and many experienced nurses are not finding jobs either, because they have to pay them too much! What the hospitals want is that nurse with a "couple" years experience so they don't have to train them, but not "many years" because then they have to pay them more. Articles are starting to come out about the "truth" of the nursing shortage. The nursing board and the nursing schools benefit from people thinking there is a shortage, because they still make their money (unless all these student loans start going into default,...then maybe they will make it a personal case).

I know it is a rough situation right now because of the economy. Unfortunately, complaining to the state board is still not going to land you a nursing job. I would put your efforts into looking into various states, networking like crazy. Applying at every job that even sounds like it has a remotely medical background. I know this is frustrating, but there are tons of new grads, and hospitals are closing down and cutting back.

Hope things turn around, but looks like it's going to be slow moving.

Hey girl!

Just thought I would let you know of one really great opportunity. I am a new grad I just got hired at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville to work in the operating room. Twice a year they hire a batch of about 12 new graduate nurses to train and place in various areas throughout the Mayo Clinic Hospital. I have friends in MICU, Post-Op Transplant, Surgical, Medical, etc..They are accepting applications again in May. It is a great place to work for and if you could find a way to sell yourself really well I'm sure you could get an interview. Just a thought!

Dear frustrated grad,

I am in the same position, its been almost a year and I am without a job and my loan officers are hunting me down! I have also come to realize that it is much more difficult for nurses seeking pediatric jobs more so than adults! :(

Are you applying in the Rochester area? If so, let me know, I might be able to help. Where I work, they are still hiring, but you have to be a PITA with the HR person.
