New Job - OR Nurse

Hello Nurses!!

I am a west coast (WA) recent graduate RN who will be graduating soon from the RN-BSN program at UW Tacoma in less than three weeks! I will be done with school for a while before I start working.

During my time at the RN-BSN Program at UW Tacoma, i have applied to countless jobs and it took me six months to finally get a job! Waiting six months was definitely worth it!

Last week, I had my nursing panel interview with the OR management team at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Honestly, I did not know what to think about. It was definitely an interesting interview. Most behvarioral questions.

When I got home, I was overanalzying what I had said in the interview and was feeling very discouraged and wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. I did not feel good about the interview at all. I gave me best and that is all that matters.

Three hours later, one of the nursing recruiter congratulated me and gave me the offer to accept the OR Residency position at Virginia Mason Medical Center. I could not believe the news. It felt so surreal. I still cannot believe I got the job. Perhaps, the closer I get to the month of August, the more real it will feel. I am just grateful for the opportunity and am excited to start this new chapter in my life as an OR nurse. The residency position will start in August 2018.

Few things I learned throughout the process: NEVER, EVER GIVE UP. THE BEST IS YET TO COME. ALL THINGS WORK TOWARDS YOUR GOOD.

I know these statements and phrases sound very cliche and cheesy, but it is the reality.

Has anyone applied to OR Virginia Mason's residency program and got the offer?

Specializes in ED.

Hi, I saw your post about the OR residency at VM and i was wondering if you could share a bit more about the questions and the whole process plus now that you have been going through the residency, how do you like it? I am in the process of applying and I am working on my cover letter. I have over 5 years of experience in the ER but I am wanting to transition into OR. Any info would be highly appreciated!
