New Grad Nurse Positions in El Paso

Hi everyone,

I will be graduating in May with my BSN from the University of Rhode Island. I maybe moving down to El Paso where my boyfriend is stationed at Fort Bliss. I was looking to work on a maternity or pediatric unit, is anyone working at any of the hospital there that are hiring new grads? I was looking at the WBAMC but can't seem to find if they are hiring new grads. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You are lucky that El Paso could be in your future. It's one of the few places where hospitals are hiring new grads for hospital jobs. Everything I've heard is Beaumont is hard to actually get into - everything is done by internet and there doesn't seem to be real people to talk to about positions. Other hospitals to consider: Providence Memorial Hospital (my hospital), Sierra Medical Center, and Sierra Providence East. The previous three are all owned by the same corporation Tenet. You can also look at Del Sol or Las Palmas. Our county hospital University Medical Center is a level one trama hospital that is also a teaching hospital and is in the process of building a children's hospital. Providence currently has a specialized pediatric area. I graduated last May and as far as I know everyone that was looking for hospital jobs were snapped up. Good luck - you cant beat El Paso for the weather and food!!

UMC is completing a new peads/womans health expansion to their hospital. You would be wise to learn Spanish if you do not already speak this language. Otherwise, El Paso nursing will be more difficult due to this frequently encountered language barrier. Las Palmas also has a fairly active paed floor.

Spanish is always helpful but it's not required. I do not know Spanish but am learning as I go along. I've found that most patients do speak a little English and with my little bit of Spanish we are able to communicate. If needed there are always other nurses, CNA's, family members who will translate. Spanish would be needed most if working at University Medical Center.
