new grad changing jobs?

Nurses General Nursing

I want to move back to my hometown. I've been applying to jobs there. I have been at my hospital currently for 4 months. I am a new nurse. I know it doesn't look great wanting to change jobs, especially so soon. When the prospective hospitals ask why, what is my best choice of words?

I considered telling them the truth, which is that I really miss my family and after have been living away from them for the past decade, I'm ready to plant my roots.

What would you suggest?

Also, at what point do I start telling my current manager that I am applying to other positions?

I would not tell your current employer you are applying elsewhere

This. Don't say a word to anyone of your plans It only puts a target on your back

Specializes in CMSRN, hospice.

I agree that you shouldn't tell your current employer you are looking.

As for the wording of why you're seeking a new job, just say that you are relocating to the area. No need to get specific.

I don't see why prospective hospitals would ask about your reason for moving. They would just want to know when you're available, that you're licensed to work in that state, etc.

You might be getting ahead of yourself, some employers won't even interview a new nurse who worked for four months and are looking to change jobs. It's a waste of employers time and money to invest orientation on employees who stay for less than a year.

Not helpful in the least. More of your opinion on a matter that is not related to my question. Had I asked if I could get an interview with four months experience, that'd be another story. I thank you for your input, as any advice is good advice. I just would like to see it be helpful rather than irrelevant, in the future.

Thank you everyone for the advice.
