Need to make a decision...

  1. Hi: I've been out of clinical nursing for a few years. Haven't been in the hospital setting for over 10 years. My clinical background is in homecare, assisted living and LTC. I am getting ready to graduate with my MSN and would like to start teaching nursing students (fundamentals or clinical skills in the lab) in the Fall. I would like to update my skills and get some clinical experience over the summer. What would you do, a nurse refresher course or go and work at a rehab center for the summer? Thanks!

first thought - work at the rehab center

can you try to do both - work and do a refresher course?

I would definitely take the refresher course. If you will be teaching foundations, you'll just be teaching basic nursing skills that I don't think anyone can forget, especially with you working in home health. Maybe you could even go into the skills lab at the nursing school ahead of time to practice.
