Need some advice on expected salary

Nurses General Nursing

I am a newly graduated male nurse (RN) (not BSN yet just did bridge program). I have a BA in business and a ton of senior management experience but I'm sure it won't have much to do with my salary. I do speak spanish. I'm hoping to get employed with Manatee Memorial (I live in the Tampa Bay area). I was wondering what hourly pay or annual salary I could expect if I work nights and some weekends? I'm trying to create a reasonable budget. Thanks in advance for your help.

Mgmt experience comes later in the grand scheme. Bilingual is a plus. Shift dif is strictly a facility decision. Weekends are generally a given in this profession, maybe get every-other wk end off is a plus. Until you have an offer, you are at the mercy of the economy. New Grads having a terrible time getting employed, the cost of training one is huge. I think it's way too early to look at your budget. Sometimes new grads are hired at $20-something.

You may want to check salary.com. It give a pretty good idea for the area around the specific hospital area youre looking for.

Thanks so much. I'm still hoping to get closer figures. Salary.com has it around 50K. I didn't change careers for the money. Believe me, it's quite a pay cut going into nursing but I love it. I'm hoping I'll make at least $26/hr. I imagine working nights is the only way to make that happen. If anyone has more input please let me know.

Work weekend nights and you can get up to around $32-36/hr

Why don't you just call the hospital and ask HR for the starting salary scale and shift differentials? That info is usually freely available to applicants and would be way more accurate than anyone's guess.

Nights is mandatory for the most part for most people, and typically every third or every other weekend is the norm. These are things that you will not get away from ... it's part of being a new nurse.

As far as pay is concerned, it varies WIDELY ... Travel and you can get $40-50/hr, stay local and some are $20, sometimes less. In NW OH we start at $23 and change.

I graduated in 2008 and the best new grad salary I found in the Tampa Bay area was $22.70 hr. So i opted for night shift bc it was an extra $4.08 from 7-11 and and extra $5.32 from 11-7. So it ruffly added out to be about $27.50/hr. I never looked into manatee memorial though, i mainly researched hospitals in hillsborough, pasco, ad polk before i made a decision.
