Need ideas for PICU inservice

Hello,

I'm an RN student, and need to give an in-service presentation to the PICU staff on a topic relevant to PICU nursing. Does anyone have any ideas on hot/current topics in the pediatric critical care field, and/or an important topic that I could discuss? Thanks for any suggestions.

How about physiological norms for vitals. Simple and very important in a PICU environment. This was the hardest thing for me when I switched to the PICU. In addition the cardiac kids have different values as well. Good luck!

pertussis its back and its not pretty

high flow o2 v intubation in rsv patients (vapotherm)

why is 02 saturation not the only indicator in weaning acute sickle cell patients off of o2

effects of long term tpn therapy on infants with short gut

Hmm, that seems like a pretty tough assignment, for a student (no offense :) ) to have to give an inservice to experienced PICU nurses. I might suggest something that's out of the norm or more based off a new theory or approach. To be more specific, I just finished a paper in my grad theory class on the Theory of Chronic Sorrow. I was unfamiliar with this before my class and yet I feel it is very applicable to peds critical care.

Are you able to talk with some of the PICU nurses? I'd prepare 5-10 topic ideas and ask what interests them. That way hopefully you'd get a decent turnout.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! I really appreciate it.

tryingtohaveitall-- I agree that it's a tough assignment for a student! I wish my professors did, too .

That's an interesting topic-- chronic sorrow, and definitely applicable and interesting. Thanks for the idea!
