Need Advice in passing nclex the 2nd time

Hello I am new to this forum and I have been reading different forums concerning ncelx. I just found out I failed at 265 questions and received my results in the mail. I had nearly passing in all categories except for mental health which was above passing. I took kaplan and did all the questions trainers and about 100-150 questions a day. I was told to do questions and not content by my classmates. I guess you can say it didn't help me . Now, I'm in search of some kind of enlightenment. Could anyone give me some advice in tackling my second try? Should I purchase more books such as Saunders? or retake Kaplan? I'm not sure how to organize my studying.

After you took the practice test, did you go back and review to find out why the correct answers were correct? You should do that. Also, DO the content as well as the questions!

Thank you for responding ! I did get a chance to review the questions and rationales but I quickly reviewed it because my test date was soon. I was falling behind in my question trainers as well. I also didn't get a chance to watch all of the videos in Kaplan. I think i need to start from the beginning and review before I do questions. I am able to retest in 45 days. I just hope that is enough time to retest. Maybe flash cards could help also.

Hello everyone seeking advice for my upcomming lpn exam i was so sad that suzannes plan is no longer available..... i am currently reviewing exam cram lpn saunders the orange book forgot the edition.....could anyone give me morw review books to look into ...

HI,

Don't try to rush and retake the test. Give yourself time to "grieve" and sort of collect yourself. I was told never to go into restudying anxious.

If you need to, take kaplan again. And go through the content and questions. If you fall behind or feel like you're not ready and need more time, reschedule your test. It's better than rushing through your study and then having to retake the test once again(i should know). Utilize Kaplan's resources. They have tutors that can help you tackle specific problem areas. Talk to or email instructors for advice or help. They respond back and will be blunt and honest (from my experience). Specific concepts that you cant seem to remember, make flashcards. Look over rationale and try to understand why it is that answer.

I am saying this from experience. I failed the first time and rushed through restudying. And now i have to take it for the 3rd time. This time i weighed my options and found a review that is right for me. Just take your time and decide how you want to proceed. Do not rush! Sorry for rambling. And good luck!

Saunder's, the latest edition, worked for me. It's what Suzanne's plan was based on.

Best of luck to you, and as Bebot said, don't rush yourself. If you need 2-3 months to study, take it. :)

I agree with all above. Don't Rush but rather take your time to study the material. I used the Saunders Comprehensive book. I hear Kaplan is good too but it sounds like you rushed through it so maybe do Kaplan again and make sure that you focus on each disease process, delegation and proritization. The more you rush through the material the higher your odd of failing again. I passed with 265 questions the first time. I hope your outcome is better next time but you must be familiar with the information.

I agree with Whispera, you should go back and read the rationales for the questions, I not only looked at the questions I got incorrect but went over the ones I got correct. I got a lot of priority questions and select all that apply. With the priority questions, I thought which pt is having expected symptoms, i.e. a pt with asthma is wheezing, or a pt with a casted leg has no pulses. which one would you see first. That is what helped me get through it, as far as the select all that apply, I would treat each option as true or false. I wish you the best of luck, just take your time and breath through each question, don't get caught up in the number of questions you get.

Thank you everyone for responding. I am planning on taking the kaplan again and I just purchased the Saunders book, so hopefully it will help. I agree Bebot, I should take my time in studying and not rush through it. I must say it is embarassing when your friends pass and you don't. I appreciate everyones advice and I am assuming this suzanne's plan is discontinued?
