Need Advice....

I have been working Nocs for 2 years. I have been very sick for 2 weeks and just can't get over this illness. I work nights to avoid daycare costs. I have been working 3 12 hour night shifts. I like to split them up so I usually work Mon, Wed, and Fri but that does change so my schedule is never the same. I don't know if I should cut back and do 2 12 noc a week or should I try to find a different job all together to work every weekend days. If I go to every weekend days I will have no family time. I am wondering if anyone has been in this situation and what did you do? I don't want to use childcare just so I can work days. We will need to budget like crazy but I can make it work maybe by working every Mon and Fri. I just don't know if my body will still be fighting working those 2 nights. Any advice anyone?????

Night shift is simply unnatural and very unhealthy, although it does have its merits. Only you, of course, can answer your question. But I do pray for clarity of thought and that good options will be available to you. I hope you are well again soon.

You might want to check with your physician (still sick after two weeks? get it checked out!), and also talk to your scheduler about your recent illness. Maybe you could drop down to two nights/week for the next couple of weeks to give yourself a bit of a break, then go back to your regular schedule.

see your MD first. Could be diabetes or HTN or something else going on. Being sick will not help you think clearly.

Why are you so dead set against daycare? Most of the really messed up preschoolers that I know have never been to daycare & don't know how to share or get along with other children. Do your little one a favor & take a second look at good daycare situations.

I went to the doctor yesterday. I have a bad ear infection. I am interested in the relation between the HTN and diabetes and working the night shift. It is pretty crazy that happens. My son does go to ECFE classes and is in other playgroup situations where he is able to learn to share ect. We have worked hard to avoid daycares because here where I live it would cost over $1,000 a month. I am not saying I am against daycare we are just not taking that route. Thanks for the replies!!

Yikes!

I had no idea that daycare could cost that much. It's been a loooong time since I have priced them--my grandaughter is in college now, (and it's a darned sight cheaper than daycare!) I'm glad to hear that you are seeing that he gets a chance to be with little people his own age. Hope you feel better soon. I worked nights for 2 years & aged at least 5 to 7 years during that time. A few of the people I worked with thrived on those hours, but most of us were just biding our time until we could switch to days. Good luck to you.

i'll tell you, for ahile i worked weekend nocs (24 hrs total) and got paid for 36 hrs.

the money was great, and i was home all week so i could still participate in my kid's schools, homework, sports, etc.

somewhere you will have to sacrifice something.

hoping you can work this out.

best of everything.

Pardon me for taking this personally, but as a mother who endured great sacrifice in order to raise my own children, this is very offensive. I stayed home with my children because I was well-aware that no one could love them and care more about their moral/character development than I did. And, yes, that included learning to how get along with other people of all ages, not just children.

We should support the OP who feels that time with her family is important -- that's why she's been working at night. It's a sacrifice that she seems willing to make as long as it does not have a deleterious effect on her health.
